Fresno, CA 93720

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, between the hours of 7:45am - 5:00pm

What Medical Assistants contribute to Cardinal Health

Medical Assistant provides high quality, patient-centered care focused on treating and managing care while ensuring the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the practice. The Medical Assistant will perform both clinical and administrative duties in a fast-paced medical setting while maintaining professionalism, patient confidentiality, and teamwork.

Medical Assistants are responsible for medical services that directly or indirectly provide healthcare to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist during medical procedures.
  • Take vital signs.
  • Schedule external labs, diagnostic and other follow-up for patients.
  • Request and obtain necessary clinical documents for the patients chart.
  • Update medical records.
  • Organize examination rooms.
  • Sterilize / prepare medical instruments.
  • Disposal of contaminated supplies.
  • Follow up on patient calls.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • May assist with verifying health insurance coverage, and other clerical duties.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Ensures that all processing and reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Perform any other functions as required by management.
  • Process all outbound referrals in a timely manner, prioritizing urgent and STAT requests appropriately.
  • Ensure all referral-related documentation is completed accurately and documented in the EMR.
  • Schedule non-treatment follow-up appointments, laboratory tests, and port flushes correctly.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations as needed, submitting complete documentation and appropriate diagnoses.
  • Maintain clear communication with patients regarding the status of referrals and authorizations.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills both in person and over the phone.
  • Process genetic testing and coordinate with pathology departments to ensure proper specimen handling.
  • Complete tasks as outlined in the Administrative Medical Assistant SOP.
  • Provide backup support to clinical Medical Assistants as needed.
  • Effectively complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a Medical Assistant in the state of employment or completion of a Medical Assisting program
  • Current CPR certification
  • Minimum of two years experience, preferred


What is expected of you and others at this level

  • Acquires job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete standard tasks
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during procedures
  • Perform clinical tasks such as injections, EKGs, and medication reconciliation (as applicable)
  • Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Schedule appointments, manage phone calls, and assist with referrals and authorizations
  • Maintain exam rooms, stock supplies, and ensure infection control standards are followed
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and clinic policies
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to support efficient patient flow
  • Works on basic and routine assignments
  • Selects correct processes from prescribed rules or guidelines
  • Work is closely managed and follows detailed instructions
  • Seeks regular guidance and advice from supervisor

Anticipated hourly range:$17.80 per hour - $27.83 per hour
